Various forensic laboratories are available today to provide support to a number of industry sectors. The most well-known of these must certainly be the forensic service laboratories employed by various police services around the world, but many others are also available, e.g. plant pathology, medical laboratories, etc.
The norm is that, in order for a forensic laboratory to be recognized as a reliable facility providing accurate results and information, forensic laboratories should be accredited to ISO 17025 (Good Laboratory Practices). In South Africa this accreditation may only be given by SANASS, the South African equivalent of the British UKASS, etc.
The purpose of this demo system is to show how an integrated management system can be put together to include the requirements of ISO 17025, as well as those of the more traditional management systems, such as ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System). It is today broadly excepted that an integrated system such as this will enable good management and good governance of organizations.
